Magnesium oxide calcined from Magnesite (MgCO3) is often referred to as ‘natural magnesium oxide’. The Magnesite can be calcined in horizontal rotary kilns or vertical (shaft or multiple hearth) kilns, each resulting in a magnesium oxide with different physical properties.
Grecian Magnesite S.A, 50% share holder of VMC, is Europe’s biggest producers of natural magnesium oxide with a total annual production of 200.000 mt per annum. During the past years Grecian Magnesite has successfully completed several large investment projects to further upgrade its production process and to increase the flexibility of its production facilities. One example is a fully computerised laser photometric sorter, which safeguards the consistency of the feedstock for the kilns.
We market most of Grecian Magnesite’s caustics magnesia, which is partly further processed in our plant in Schiedam.
Possehl Erzkontor GmbH is Europe’s biggest importer of natural magnesium oxide. We benefit from the worldwide presence of Possehl Erzkontor in sourcing magnesium oxide outside Europe.
