Magnesium chloride is used in various applications, for example: sorel cement, flooring and grinding stone industries, animal feed additive and fertilizer mixtures, drilling fluids, de-icing agent and dust suppressant and as base for the production of magnesium metals and other magnesium compounds.
Sorel cement
Magnesia floors are heavy duty floors based upon Sorel cement. Sorel cement, is a hydraulic cement mixture of magnesium oxide (calcined magnesia) with magnesium chloride. This material is usually combined with filler materials such as sand, aggregates, talcum and pigments.
Magnesia floors are laid in-situ and offer many advantages:
- can be laid over an existing rough floor
- extremely durable
- non dusting
- resistant to solvents, oil and grease
- no joints needed
- non combustible
- high plain surface
